The issue was that the Microsoft libraries would not install from the Seagate drive & the provided installer attempted to download it /w failure every time.

After spending a minimum of 3 & a half hours of different configurations on a laptop (XP SP3 Enterprise) & still making no progress getting the software installed, I contacted Seagate support. I performed these tests on two different systems: the first test on a 2-year old laptop running windows XP SP3, using USB 2.0 the USB 3.0 tests were conducted on a 2012-build Win 7 64 desktop.Ĭons: The cons are /w the Seagate backup software. Within 2-3 seconds device was recognized on USB2.0 / SATA combo port with no issues. Housing is solid plastic and feels durable. Adapter is matching color and looks as it is just part of the dive.ĭrive is small and solid feeling. I would like to see all hard drive manufacturers implement similar options for internal desktop hard drives.
The adapter has a snug fit and doesn't fall off or rattle around like some other brands with adapters. I do like the removable adapter on the end of the drive Seagate has USB3.0 (also USB 2.0 backwards compatible) along with Firewire 800 and Thunderbolt adapters available at extra cost. It is of acceptable length for side USB ports on laptops, but docking port users and desktop users will probably want to obtain a longer cable or a powered USB 3.0 hub. I was pleased to see this device didn’t just flop around in the packaging and sustain damage like similar external hard drives.
